Beginner Quilt Making 101

In this class, we will rotary cut squares and strips, put blocks together to form the quilt top. We will figure and apply borders, then layer. baste and machine quilt.  The finished size of the quilt is 67" x 60".

This class meets weekly for three weeks, for three hours each time. This is a hands-on class. Weekly homework is required to be completed before you arrive for the next week's class.

Before taking this class, you must know how to operate your sewing machine and be able to stitch a straight line, wind bobbins, thread your machine, change the needle, adjust the thread tension, change stitch length/width, and know-how to change needle position if the machine allows it.

Supply List -
Sewing Machine in good working order with new needle. Bring the manual.
¼” piecing foot and a walking foot for your machine.
Good quality cotton thread: 50 wt Mettler or Aurifil recommended. Bring a full bobbin.
Scissors, pins.
Rotary Cutter, cutting mat.
Acrylic Ruler, one at least 24” long; one square ruler, 12-1/2”. Quilter’s Select brand highly recommended.
1 yard each of 3 quilt shop quality fabrics: A focal print; A print for blocks & borders (small scale is best); 1 accent (recommend you choose a blender or solid with good contrast to the focal print).
