
Learning Free Motion Quilting

In this class, we will get minds, muscles, materials, and our machines ready for successful free motion machine quilting.
Supply List for Beginning Free Motion Quilting Class
Sewing machine with free motion quilting foot
90/14 Top Stitch sewing machine needles
3 quilt sandwiches either
17” square top plain or pieced (with batting/backing slightly bigger) OR
Fat Quarter Shuffle pattern, 3 placemat tops/batting/backings.
Thread that contrasts with sandwich tops plus a couple full bobbins
Quilting gloves (optional but highly recommended)
Quilt basting pins
Pencil and unlined paper
Practice Sandwiches: Solids or blenders are recommended.
Cut all pieces (backing, front, and batting at least 12 inches square. Pin the corners with curved basting pins. If your practice sandwich is larger, you may need to place another pin in the center. If using basting spray instead of pinning, lightly spray both sides of the batting pieces, then place backing wrong side up and center the batting on top. Put top fabric on top of batting.
