Introduction to Sewing for Kids 8 yo +
This 3-session hands-on class teaches the basics of using a sewing machine while creating a project in each class. In addition to the hands-on instruction, students will receive a handout with instructions for each project.
Bring to each class: Sewing machine, manual for the machine, Metler or Aurifil thread, empty bobbin, scissors, pins, seam ripper. Don't have a sewing machine? Machines are available to borrow from CS Sewing if arrangements are made ahead of time.
Day One: Sewing Machine Basics:
- Winding bobbins, threading the machine
- Adjusting thread tension
- Changing stitch patterns/widths/lengths.
- Sewing straight, sewing curves.
Materials included: practice fabric and thread; fabric, batting and elastic for the cozy.
Day Two: Making a pillow
- Piecing a pillow top
- Hemming an edge
- Creating an envelope style pillow cover.
Day Three: Drawstring Bag
- Stitching seams
- Turning a bag
- Topstitching.
- Create a channel and insert cording.
Day Two: Four Patch Pillow
- Piecing a pillow top
- Hemming an edge
- Creating an envelope style pillow cover.
