Machine Applique Basics

Explore the art of applique by machine and learn the basics of:

Understanding the applique pattern and methods
Using fusible web
Transferring the design
Stitch options
Navigating curves and corners

We will be working on the applique portion of the "Sew Vintage" applique pattern from Patch Abilities. You will need to piece the borders and stitch the border to the background, according to the instructions in the pattern, before coming to class.

Sew Vintage Pattern by Patch Abilities
Background fabric with borders attached
Sewing Machine and manual
Small sharp scissors
Pins
Lightweight fusible web (Heat-n-Bond Lite recommended) 1/2 yard
Fabric scraps 10" x 10" for sewing machine; 4" x 6" small print for the "project" that hangs from the machine; 4" x 4" scraps of light gray (for needle mount and wheel), tan (for spools), small stripe for the thread on spools, and gold or yellow for the heart.
Thin batting cut to 13" x 15"
Backing fabric cut to 14" x 16"
Assorted threads to compliment or contrast with your fabrics
