Introduction to Sewing for Ages 8-Adult
This 3-session hands-on class teaches the basics of using a sewing machine while creating a project in each class. In addition to the hands-on instruction, students will receive a handout with instructions for each project. Most materials are included.
SUPPLY LIST
Bring to each class: Sewing machine with manual, empty bobbins, scissors, pins, seam ripper. Don't have a sewing machine? Machines are available to borrow if arrangements are made ahead of time.
Come in 15-30 minutes early before the first class, in order to select your included materials.
Week One: Sewing Machine Basics:
- Winding bobbins, threading the machine
- Adjusting thread tension
- Changing stitch patterns/widths/lengths.
- Sewing straight, sewing curves.
Week Two: Four Patch Pillow
- Using interfacing
- Stitching seams and hemming
- Topstitching
Materials included: interfacing/pattern, fabric
Week Three: Fabric Bowl Cozy
- Working with batting
- Stitching through thick layers
- Turning the project
- Topstitching
Materials included: Fabric, batting and instruction sheet
