
Introduction to Sewing for Kids Ages 8+

This 3-session hands-on class teaches the basics of using a sewing machine while creating a project in each class. In addition to the hands-on instruction, students will receive a handout with instructions for each project. Most materials are included.
SUPPLY LIST
Bring to every class: Sewing machine with manual, empty bobbins, fabric scissors, pins, seam ripper. Don't have a sewing machine? Machines are available to borrow if arrangements are made ahead of time.
Come in 15 minutes early before each class, in order to select your included materials.
Week One: Sewing Machine Basics:
- Winding bobbins, threading the machine
- Adjusting thread tension
- Changing stitch patterns/widths/lengths.
- Sewing straight, sewing curves.
Week Two: Four Patch Pillow
- Construct a 4-patch
- Stitching seams and hemming
- Topstitching
Materials included: fabric and pattern, pillow insert
Week Three: Fabric Basket
- Working with interfacing
- Turning the project
- Topstitching
Materials included: Fabric, interfacing and instruction sheet
